Medical Emergency
DIAL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING A MEDICAL EMERGENCY
Information dispatch will require:
• Nature of Medical Emergency
• Location of the Patient- At more complex locations such as the GCC at CGF, it is best to send someone to meet the responders at the door and guide them to the patient. Be sure to tell the dispatcher which door you will be meeting the responders at.
• Description of Patient (Age, Gender, Level of Consciousness, Known Medical History)
Do not move patient unless absolutely necessary. Such as, if patient is in danger of being injured further.
First Aid may be administered to anyone with first aid training. Good Samaritan Laws cover civilians providing medical assistance to those needing it.
If there are personnel available that are trained to render CPR or utilize an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) they may do so.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL AN EMPLOYEE PROVIDE ADVANCE MEDICAL CARE AND TREATMENT
If personnel trained in First Aid are not available, you may attempt to provide the following assistance:
• Locate and utilize proper PPE (gloves, masks, safety goggles.)
• Stop the Bleeding by first locating medical gloves, then applying firm pressure. If the bleed is from a limb and you are able to do so without furthering the injury, elevate limb above the heart.
• Clear air passages using the Heimlich Maneuver in case of choking.
NEVER BLINDLY ATTEMPT TO REMOVE OBJECT STUCK IN VICTIMS THROAT, THIS COULD PUSH THE OBJECT FURTHER
In the case of rendering assistance to personnel exposed to hazardous materials,
consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment.
